1767: The Creditors of Matthew Snook
In September, creditors of Mathew Snook, “1767 The Creditors of Matthew Snook”, meet on January 12th at the Fountain Tavern to discuss his estate.

A grand firework display is scheduled at the Fountain Gardens in Hilsea. Organized by Mr. Mastow, the display features a sequence of pyrotechnic elements, including maroon salutes, sky rockets, a vertical wheel, a 30-foot brilliant sun, radiant fire branches, and formations like pyramids and hexagons adorned with lights and wheels. Entry costs one shilling for the garden and two shillings for the gallery, with limited tickets sold in advance. The fireworks are to be accompanied by a martial band.

That autumn, a setter named Rover, wearing a brass collar engraved with “John Crewe, Esq. Crewe-hall,” is lost. The owner hopes he will be returned to either the Fountain Coffee-house or the Crown Inn in Portsmouth.
