During the violent gale on Sunday last, a boat, employed in carrying off an anchor to a merchant brig, was upset at Spithead about five o’clock in the afternoon, by which accident John Evans, master of the White Swan public-house, on the Green, Gosport, William Evans, his brother, and another man, named James Evans, not related to either of the former, were unfortunately drowned. The body of James Evans was brought on shore on Southsea Beach the following morning, by a Newfoundland dog belonging to a gentleman, who was amusing himself by throwing stones to entice the dog into the water. The remains of the other two men have not yet been found.
