Portsmouth and Petersfield Turnpike Road.
NOTICE is hereby given,—That the TOLLS arising at the several Toll Gates, and Weighing Engine, upon this Turnpike Road, will be LET by AUCTION, either together or separate, for such Time or Term as the Trustees shall then declare, and subject to such conditions as shall be there produced, to the best Bidder, at the Ship and Bell Inn, Horndean; on Monday the 6th day of July, 1812, between the hours of eleven o’clock in the forenoon, and one o’clock in the afternoon, the Term to commence from the 1st day of September next, in the manner directed by the Act passed in the thirteenth year of the reign of his Majesty King George the Third, “for Regulating the Turnpike Roads;” which Tolls produced at the Letting last year, the several sums following, viz.
Portsbridge Gate & Weighing Engine at ditto, £2250
Purbrook Gate… £905 | Sheetbridge Gate… £810
and will be put up at such sums respectively, if Let, as before. The Trustees will, at the Auction, declare whether the Weighing Engine shall be Let, or not; and accordingly Portsbridge Gate will be Let with, or without it.
Whoever happens to be the best bidder, must, at the same time, pay down Two Months Rent in advance, and give security, and produce sufficient sureties to the satisfaction of the Trustees of the said Turnpike Road, for payment of the Rent agreed for, and at such times as they shall direct.
